The wines

2018 Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc

  • 57.4% Sauvignon Blanc and 42.6% Sémillon

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | The La Mission Haut-Brion 2018 Blanc is a blend of 57.4% Sauvignon Blanc and 42.6% Sémillon. It sashays out of the glass with gregarious notes of white peaches, fresh pears and pineapple with nuances of lime blossoms, crushed rocks and sea spray, plus a waft of beeswax. The racy, medium to full-bodied palate is charged with energy, delivering vibrant citrus and tropical fruit layers with a satiny texture and fantastic length. Completely exceeding my barrel tasting expectations, this promises to be an earlier drinking style, albeit multilayered, dripping with class and, yes, it's downright sexy. Give it just a few more months in bottle and then it should offer decadent drinking for the next 15+ years.

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | Conditions were a little challenging for the Sémillon this year, and the blend of the La Mission Haut-Brion 2016 Blanc is, unusually, dominated by Sauvignon Blanc (62.7%) with 37.3% Sémillon. It reveals subtle notions of mandarin peel, fresh grapefruit and pineapple with touches of crushed rocks, white peaches and coriander seed. Medium-bodied, the palate has a racy line of freshness cutting through the vibrant citrus and tropical layers, finishing on a lingering mineral note. Considering the challenges, this is a very impressive result!

2015 Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc

  • 33% Sauvignon Blanc and 67% Semillon
  • 96p
  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | Made up of 33% Sauvignon Blanc and 67% Semillon, the La Mission Haut-Brion 2015 Blanc has a slightly closed nose, offering peeks at lemon curd, white peach and yuzu notes with accents of musk perfume, garrigue, fresh hay and wet pebbles. Medium to full-bodied with a lovely textural element of phenolic grip and a racy acid line cutting through the intense stone fruit and savory layers, it finishes with great persistence.

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | The 2014 La Mission Haut Brion Blanc has a surprisingly strict bouquet that needed coaxing from the glass, eventually offering scents of Cornice pear, jasmine and honeysuckle. This is very subtle and clearly will need a few years in bottle, just like Laville Haut Brion demanded. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a cheeky pinch of lemongrass enlivening the senses on the entry, quite a feral La Mission Haut Brion Blanc with the Sémillon fully in control on the lightly honeyed, spicy finish. It is a great La Mission Haut Brion, although I remain convinced that the 2014 Haut Brion Blanc has the class this year.

2013 Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc

  • 24% Sauvignon Blanc and 76% Semillon
  • TheChampagneSommelier | Något återhållen & fortfarande lite reduktiv. Svag aromatisk profil som inte riktigt flyger. Rik stil med en kaxig karaktär.
  • 92p
  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | The 2013 La Mission Haut Brion Blanc, a blend of 24% Sauvignon Blanc and 76% Semillon, had a surprisingly backward, stoic bouquet that frankly refused to come out to play when I tasted it at the château. The palate is much better and more representative, very well balanced and powerful, with notes of grapefruit and honeysuckle, quite spicy towards the finish, as if making up for the reticence on the nose. This is a La Mission Haut Brion Blanc that I suspect will grow up to be outgoing and maybe even fiery, but it will require several years in bottle to settle down.

2012 Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc

  • 84% Semillon 16% Sauvignon Blanc
Elegant!

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate |  Tasted blind at the Southwold 2012 tasting. The 2012 La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc has a very intense Sauvignon Blanc nose offering gooseberry, kiwi fruit and smoky scents, although it does not seem to possess the complexity of the Malartic-Lagravière Blanc. The palate is balanced with a smooth entry, quite phenolic compared to its peers with a waxy, almost honeyed finish that feels creamy and yet needs to muster more complexity. I suspect this is just entering a dumb phase (just like Laville Haut-Brion had a habit of doing!). Like the Haut-Brion, my mark reflects the fact that this wine has closed down since bottling, but it will warrant a far higher score in line with its barrel showing after 10-15 years.

  • 94p
  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate |  Also great values, no tasting note given.

  • 96p
  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | A staggeringly rich blend of 81% Semillon and the rest Sauvignon Blanc, this full-throttle, impressively endowed wine has good acidity, with hints of candle wax, mandarin orange marmalade, caramelized melons and lemon oil. It is a stunner and should last 30-40 more years.

2009 Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc

  • 84% Semillon 16% Sauvignon Blanc
  • 98p
  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | An exquisite blend of 84% Semillon and 16% Sauvignon Blanc, this wine possesses a zesty crushed rock component intermixed with lemon butter, fig, white currant, quince and melons. Its steely backbone of acidity gives precision and zestiness to what is a full-bodied, powerful, concentrated dry white that should evolve for 20 or more years.

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | An absolutely staggering vintage for this historic and tiny estate, this 2006 has a huge nose of tropical fruit, including pineapple, as well as a liqueur of minerality, with quince, white citrus, and a hint of subtle toast. Full-bodied, with huge concentration, an almost flinty mouthfeel, zesty acidity, and a monster finish, this is a prodigious Laville Haut-Brion that needs about 10 years of cellaring and should last 30 or more years.

20 Caualie….
  • 97p
  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | A sensational example of Laville, the light green/gold-hued 2005 offers up a superb bouquet of spring flower blossoms, melted wax, honeysuckle, caramel, ripe citrus, and a subtle hint of smoke. This superb, full-bodied, fabulously concentrated white should have 40 years of longevity.

Rostade kastanjer, spiskummin & kanderase fikon, Toscakaka.
  • 93p
  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate | The 2001 Laville-Haut-Brion Blanc is now beginning to strut itself, although in common with other vintages, it needs plenty of aeration. It has a beautiful bouquet with wilted white flowers, peony and potpourri. There is that trademark died honey note, just a hint of honeysuckle and jasmine that develops with time. The palate is extremely well balanced and yet it remains backward. There is a fine line of acidity here, quite steely for a Laville-Haut-Brion with an almost Chablis-like nerve on the saline finish. If you open a bottle now, then afford it 3-4 hours of decanting, otherwise hold on until it reaches its 20th birthday if possible.
