Carruades de Lafite 2020

Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Carruades de Lafite, like its big sibling, is a little youthfully shy to begin, soon unfurling to offer notes of Morello cherries, raspberry leaves, baked blackberries and spice box, plus suggestions of pencil lead, lavender and Provence herbs. The medium-bodied palate is chock-full of juicy black fruits, framed by velvety tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long and lifted. This 2020 is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.

This is very classically structured with a palate that starts off slowly. Full-bodied and chewy with a soft, creamy texture and a long finish. Savory. A touch austere. 52% cabernet sauvignon, 42% merlot and 3% cabernet franc, the rest petit verdot.

Andreas Larsson - Tasted

Pure and perfumed, fine toast and mocha with violet ripe black currant, sage and some butterscotch. Rather dense with an already rounded texture, melted tannin, with a fresh backbone, some herbal notes paired with digest dark fruit and a long supple finish.

On the nose, fresh, fruity, offering a pulpiness, a nice fleshiness of the fruit. Notes of fresh blackberry/ripe small black fruit and more slightly fresh/ripe cherries associated with camphor, fresh raspberry, cornflower, lily as well as graphite, discrete hint of sweet spices and tea. The palate is fruity and offers juiciness, freshness, good definition, some tension as well as an airy side and richness (in balance). On the palate it expresses notes of pulpy/juicy cherry, fresh/ripe raspberry and fresh blackberry combined with hints of fresh cornflower, lily, small bright blue fruits as well as fine hints of tobacco, nutmeg, cardamom, a discreet hint of sweet blond tobacco, fine hints of chocolate (in the background). Good length. The tannins are precise, structuring, fine and mellow. A nice sapidity with persistence.

Wine Maniacs

Moderately built but all components are quite well structured. A discrete version, somewhat a mini-mi of its Grand Vin. With certain sensuality, the wine shows a possible readiness for drinking at rather early stage.

Falstaff

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, ochre rim. Floral with nuances of cassis and liquorice, fine oak aromas, ripe cherries; an attractive bouquet. Taut, tight-knit, juicy, red berry fruit, mineral-salty touch, well-integrated, supporting tannins, well-balanced and persistent. Very good ageing potential.
