The 2015 Calon Segur is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot (no Cabernet Franc in the Grand Vin this year). It was picked from 8 September until 5 October at a yield of 47 hl/ha and is matured in 100% new oak for the next 20 months. The Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the aromatics with blackberry, cedar and graphite aromas: quite linear, nicely focused and reserved compared to the 2014 last year. The nose is racy, slightly tight and offers a slight power, depth, a nice harmony as well as beautiful elegance. It reveals notes of red berries, blackberries, strawberries and slight touches of cassis associated with discreet hints of liquorice stick, tobacco as well as a very discreet hint of violet, Sichuan pepper and toasted hint . The palate is fruity, juicy, delicate, mineral, gourmand, elegant and offers a nice tension, dynamism, harmony, a slight acid frame, a slight delicacy / finesse, a small fat, a nice guideline as well as a pretty expression of the fruit. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy blackberry, juicy cassis and slight touches of crushed raspberry, ripe strawberry combined with a discreet touch of plum, slight touches of mocha, caramelized wood, sweet spices as well as a discreet hint of Bourbon vanilla. Tannisn are fine, elegant and straight. Beautiful length.

Wine Enthusiast

This dense, rich wine is firm with solid tannins. Its texture and structure give it an opulent character that brings out tannins as much as the ripe black fruits. Powerful and concentrated it needs time to get its potential elegance in order. Then it will be a major wine, so it's worth waiting until 2027.
