James Suckling
Ripe and perfumed nose of baked blueberries, cassis, cherries, chocolate, licorice and sweet spices. It’s full-bodied with ripe, firm tannins. Fleshy and plush with plenty of ripe blue fruit. From organically grown grapes. Better after 2024.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2019 Fonroque has turned out nicely, offering up aromas of blackberries, minty cassis, licorice and spices. Full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, powdery tannins and lively acids, it's a rich, generous, demonstrative wine that remains nicely balanced. Part of Fonroque's biodynamically farmed holdings are located on Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau, and the rest on the slopes, with more clay and colluvium.
VertdeVin
The nose is fruity and offers a small power, a fine concentration, a beautiful precision/purity of the fruit as well as a fine sensation of tension. It reveals notes of pulpy/juicy boysen berry, raspberry, blueberry, small notes of small crushed red berries associated with fine touches of iris, lilas as well as hints of liquorice stick and vanilla. The palate is fruity, mineral and offers a small freshness, fat, tension, a fine grain, delicacy as well as a fine unctuosity and a beautiful purity/quality of the fruit. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy/pulpy blackberry, juicy raspberry, small notes of small fresh/pulpy fruits associated with touches of racy minerality, zan, fresh flowers (cornflower, rose) as well as hints of nutmeg and sweet spices. A very fine hint of coffee on the persistence.
