VertdeVin
The nose is fruity and offers a finely powerful. It reveals notes of fresh/ripe cassis, fresh/ripe blackberry and fine notes of strawberry notes combined with crushed cherry, toasted wood, spices as well as a touch of Sichuan pepper, a discreet hint of minerality and an imperceptible hint of licorice. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a nice freshness, a nice minerality, a small fat, a nice tension as well as acidity. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy blackberry, cassis, fresh raspberry and fresh red berries combined with woody hints as well as a discreet hint of graphite, spices and a very discreet hint of cocoa in background. Tannins are very fine and slightly dusty. Good length.
Wine Enthusiast
his ripe wine is full of great fruit aromas and flavors. The tannins are generous and rich, supported by rounded black-plum and -berry fruits. It should cellar well through the medium term.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2016 Chateau les Grands Chenes is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon picked from 5 to 18 October. It has a soft and rounded black cherry and red plum scented bouquet with a touch of orange blossom. The palate is sweet on the entry with grainy tannin, quite powerful, but the oak impedes a little towards the finish when other 2016s have demonstrated freshness and precision. Not bad, but this could have been better with more prudence.
