Andreas Larsson - Tasted
Floral, elegant and nuanced with hints of violet, blackberry, plum and sweet spices. The palate has good weight and volume, fluid and rounded with powdery tannin, hints of cocoa and dark berries, balanced acidity, good sense of freshness, nicely rounded and ample finish.
VertdeVin
Elegant nose, complex and aromatic. It expresses notes of black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry) associated with small floral notes as well as spicy notes (cocoa, and slight roasted notes). The mouth is full, fruity, elegant and provides accurate and pure notes of black fruits, cherry and slight notes strawberry with some sweet spices. The tannins are fine, a little dry but well integrated.
James Suckling
A subtle and refined Evangile with delicate plum, sandalwood, lavender and violet aromas and flavors. Medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. A little hard now, but just starting to open up. Drink or hold.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2013 l'Evangile shows a slightly deeper color as well as more noticeable ripe raspberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with notions of licorice and incense. Again, there is no hint of herbaceousness or tannic astringency in this mid-weight, slightly superficial, but charming, pretty 2013. Consume it over the next 7-8 years.
This magnificent estate owned by the Rothschild family appears to be the number one challenger to the supremacy of Petrus, one of its neighbors. The owners have purchased 15 acres from La Croix de Gay, all on the high plateau of Pomerol. Consequently, l'Evangile now covers 55 acres and 37 different parcels. Obviously, 2013 was a challenge from the beginning, although the 2013 l-Evangile has turned out to be charming, fruity and easy-to-drink. The problem is the price of entry for a good rather than inspirational effort.
Druvor
94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc.
