A rocking bouquet of blue fruits, dark chocolate, damp earth, and violet emerges from the 2019 Château L'Evangile, a slightly fresher yet still deep, concentrated expression of this château. Full-bodied, with beautiful tannins, a great mid-palate, and certainly no shortage of length on the finish, it has the silky, seamless style of the vintage, yet I'd still give bottles a solid 7-8 years in a cold cellar. It's a slightly changed style but still gorgeous.

Deep, dark, rich, and opulent, this flamboyant wine serves up an elixir packed with dark chocolate-covered cherries, plums, espresso, truffle, licorice, smoke and wet earth. Full-bodied, concentrated, dense and intense, this is hedonism, but the high alcohol does impart some heat that takes away from the overall experience. The wine blends 83% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon . This is the first time Cabernet Sauvignon has been placed in the blend. Drink from 2025-2040.

The nose is fruity and offers some concentration, a fine richness (in creaminess), elegance, dynamism and a certain richness. There are notes of pulpy blackberry, crunchy strawberry and, more slightly, pulpy/fresh blackcurrant, combined with hints of tonka bean, star anise, discrete serene hints, as well as fine hints of creamy raspberry, orange zest (in the background) and coffee. The palate is fruity, tight and reveals juiciness, creaminess, density, tension and a good guideline. On the palate this wine expresses notes of pulpy/creamy raspberry, juicy/fresh strawberry and more lightly crushed blackcurrant combined with touches of blueberry, star anise as well as fine tonka bean, a subtle hint of serum/eucalyptus, a discreet hint of toast and mocha. The tannins are smooth and elegant. Some power on the finish/persistence. Good length.

The 2019 L'Evangile is very good, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, sweet berries, warm spices, violets and loamy soil, framed by a nicely integrated patina of new oak that reflects a concerted effort to refine cooperage choices at this address in recent years. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it's a broad, textural wine with a richly layered core of fruit, succulent acids and ripe, supple tannins that reflects the warm, dry vintage. As usual, it's a Merlot-dominant blend, complemented by some 16% Cabernet Franc and now 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.
