Wine Enthusiast
The fifth vintage from this estate since its purchase by the Barton family of Léoville Barton in Saint-Julien, this is a generous, structured wine. It has ripe black fruits in profusion that are held together by the serious layer of tannins. Rich and concentrated, the wine will age for many years. Drink from 2024.
VertdeVin
The nose is fruity. It reveals notes of blackberry, ripe strawberry and slight notes of ripe berries associated with touches of wood / vanilla, sweet spices as well as a discreet touch of racy minerality, pepper and a very discreet touch of butter. The mouth is fruity, well-balanced and offers a nice suavity, a slight freshness, a nice definition, an acid frame, a nice minerality as well as juiciness. On the palate this wine expresses notes of blackberry, wild strawberry and redcurrant combined with touches of crushed cassis, toasted oak, licorice as well as subtle / discreet touches of sweet spices / chocolate. Tannins are fine and very slightly tight. Good length and good persistence.
James Suckling
Spices and berries with cedar and sandalwood. Medium-bodied, focused and very fine. Shows tension and focus. Drink now.
Druvor
42% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc & 4% Petit Verdot.
Tasting note
'The 2015 Mauvesin Barton is a blend of 42% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, the first vintage that Mélanie Barton-Sartorius was "on her own" to make the wine. It has a straightforward raspberry and wild strawberry-scented bouquet, a little more tertiary in style than its peers, but with good definition. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, perhaps somewhat rustic in style compared to its peers, with a savory finish that needs to develop more persistence on the finish. This is a fine Moulis, although I think there is better to come.'
