Robert Parker Wine Advocate
One of the all-time great Palmers (along with the 1961, 1966, 1970, 1989, 2000 and 2005), the 2009 Palmer is a blend of 52% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon and a whopping 7% Petit Verdot that came in at close to 14% natural alcohol. An opaque blue/black color suggests a wine with thrilling levels of concentration and intensity, and That's exactly what a taster gets. Subtle smoke, incense and Asian spice (soy?) notes interwoven with graphite, blueberry, blackberry and cassis characteristics lead to a full-bodied, phenomenally concentrated, viscous, opulent wine with plenty of sweet tannin. This sensational Palmer reveals even more floral notes than vintages such as 2005 and 2000. It should drink well for 50 years.
James Suckling
This has such class and power. Aromas of blueberries and blackberries, with hints of violets. Full-bodied, with polished tannins and a juicy finish. Solid and extremely pretty. Fabulous finish.

The nose reveals a beautiful elegance, finesse / richness, concentration as well as a slight intensity. It reveals notes of crushed cassis and crushed redcurrant combined with slight hints of fleshy / ripe wild strawberry, violet as well as a hint of blueberry and licorice. The palate is fruity, well balanced, racy / mineral and offers a beautiful mineral frame, delicacy / finesse, a slight acidity (in the background), concentration, a slight juiciness, depthness as well as a beautiful grain. On the palate this wine expresses notes of fleshy blackberry, wild strawberry and raspberry combined with a touch of morello cherry, blueberry, dark chocolate, licorice as well as subtle touches of sweet spices and cardamom. Tannins are well-built, elegant and offers a beautiful grain. Good length and beautiful persistence. There are a very discreet hint of hazelnut on the finish and a discreet hint of coffee / dark chocolate on the aftertaste. Slight power on the finish / persistence.
Andreas Larsson - Tasted
Still rather restrained, shy on the nose, good purity, very fine structure, rich, concentrated, pure Cabernet notes, blackcurrant, mineral, very silkypresent tannins, elegant, mouthfilling with nuance and finesse, very long lingering, amazing aftertaste, great purity and charm, truly with all the qualities of a grand vin.
Unprecedented. From December to July, incessant rains provoked the development of mildew. Then, during a hot, dry summer, the vines focused all their energy into the remaining grapes. Their power and concentration finally reached an exceptional level. In the winery, all of this led to an unprecedented decision: every lot would be selected for the blending of Château Palmer… Extraordinary.'
