Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The opaque blue/purple-colored 2011 Palmer reveals a stunning bouquet of licorice, truffles, camphor, spring flowers, black raspberries and black currants. One of the superstars of the vintage, this brilliant 2011 possesses superb concentration and purity, medium to full body, and remarkable length of close to a minute. A tour de force in winemaking, the Palmer team merits accolades for achieving this level of quality in a more challenging vintage than either 2009 or 2010. The “wine of the vintage” in Margaux, tiny yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare, a final blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and a severe selection (only 55% of the production made it into Palmer) are the reasons for this success.
James Suckling
A wine with currants and mineral character on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied, with silky, polished tannins and a long finish. Very tight and refined now. Tannic. Palmer only made 20 hectoliters of wine a hectare. Like a tightly wound ball of cashmere thread.
VertdeVin
The nose is fruity, juicy and offers a fine gourmandize, concentration as well as a fine deepness. It reveals notes of blackberry, strawberry and small notes of cassis associated with fine touches of spices, green pepper, rose/violet as well as raspberry, a subtle hint of tea and spices. The mouth is elegant, racy and offers a beautiful definition, tension, a fine acidulous frame, a small aerial side, gourmandize as well as concentration. On the mouth this wine expresses notes of juicy/fleshy cassis, juicy/fleshy strawberry and small notes of juicy blackberry associated with fine touches of redcurrant, small berries as well as a subtle hint of chocolate and caramelization (in the background). Tannins are elegant, structuring and very discreetly chewy. Good persistence and length.
Unprecedented. From December to July, incessant rains provoked the development of mildew. Then, during a hot, dry summer, the vines focused all their energy into the remaining grapes. Their power and concentration finally reached an exceptional level. In the winery, all of this led to an unprecedented decision: every lot would be selected for the blending of Château Palmer… Extraordinary.'
Druvor
53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot.
