The 2017 Phélan Ségur is medium to deep garnet-purple colored with pronounced cassis, black raspberries, kirsch and violets with notions of cedar, earth and cigars. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant with great intensity, fine-grained and firm, finishing long and perfumed.

A firm, silky red with lovely tightness and depth, offering currant, blueberry and hazelnut aromas and flavors. Shows layers and beauty. Bright and vivid. Lovely length. Better in 2022 or later.

Dark inky core with a purple hue. Pure nose offering some new oak and butterscotch with floral dark fruit, cassis and sage notes. Good density on the palate with bright freshness, crisp dark fruit, crushed black currant and sage flavours with youthful but polished tannins and a long vigorous finish.

The nose is fruity, elegant and offers richness as well as cncentration. It reveals notes of cassis, black berries and more slightly fleshy wild strawberry associated with small touches of liquorcie/cola, oak, cocoa, chocolate, sweet spices as well as an imperceptible hint of Sichuan pepper and tea (in the background). The palate is mineral, fresh, well-balanced, racy, fine, tight, precise and offers a fine grain as well as a good definition. On the palate this wine expresses notes of cassis, black cherry and more slightly crunchy wild red fruits associated with touches of minerality/graphite, liquorice/zan as well as a discreet touch of tonka bean. Tannins are well-built. Good length.
