Enticing red with a center palate of ripe fruit, chocolate and spices. Full to medium body, polished and velvety tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Excellent.

The 2014 Rol Valentin offers attractive brambly red berry fruit mixed with cola and sandalwood on the nose, one that gains intensity with just a few swirls of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly gritty tannin. There is admirable weight in the mouth with marine-infused black fruit, however, I just worry about the brusqueness of the tannin on the finish. This just needs a little more flesh to develop and hopefully that will happen with some bottle age. One to keep an eye upon.

Dense ruby red core. Fresh nose of dark fruit with some vanilla and new oak. The palate is dense and rounded, fine tannin, integrated wood some vanilla and sweet pepper, with layers of dark fruit, mocha and a long smooth finish, modern and lush but nicely polished with good drinkability.

The nose reveals notes of ripe black fruit and cassis combined with a few notes of violet, spices, woody notes, and a touch of truffle. The palate is fruity, fresh, mineral, racy, relatively dense and fat. In the mouth it expresses notes of blackberry cream, raspberry and cherry associated with slight notes of blueberry as well as small notes of sweet spices, mocha and touches of toast and vanilla. Tannins are fine, numerous, firm and tight. Good length.
