Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
The debut vintage for the newly renamed G d'Estournel, previously known as Goulee starts off with licorice, flowers, coffee, cocoa and plums. Medium-bodied, soft and polished, with round textures and sweet, ripe, polished cherries with plums, this charmer is going to be just great on release. Drink from 2023-2034.
Andreas Larsson - Tasted
A warm and generous wine with finely rounded tannin, sweet and ripe fruit, crushed berries, a mild spiciness and opulent finish.
Wine Review Online
Most second labels of Bordeaux châteaux that aren’t first or second growths can be greeted with a shrug – enjoyable but not memorable – while third labels should be approached as warily as blind dates. To find G d’Estournel not only to be good, but quite good, is a pleasant surprise – very harmonious with blackberry and red raspberry flavors, mature oak notes and nutty tannins. A great value for someone who wants to regularly drink good Left Bank wines but can’t afford to.

A blend of of 86% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc, aging in 20% new barriques, the 2019 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel (13.53% alcohol) has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and leaps from the glass with vivacious scents of ripe red and black plums, black cherries and mulberries with touches of spice cake, violets and star anise. Medium-bodied, the palate has bags of energetic black berry flavors with a rugged frame of chewy tannins and loads of freshness, finishing with an herbal lift.

Coming from the Médoc, the 2019 G D'Estournel is a rock-solid effort that has lots to love. Giving up pure, ripe black cherry fruit as well as tobacco and scorched earth notes, it's medium-bodied, has a round, nicely balanced mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. It's beautifully done and well worth drinking any time over the coming 10-12 years.
