Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is a blend of 72% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, coming from a 30-year-old vineyard located north of Cos. The wine opens with notes of baked plums, warm black cherries and black raspberries with suggestions of allspice, pencil shavings and black truffles plus a waft of roses. Medium-bodied, the palate features fantastic freshness and bags of bright, pure red and black fruits, framed by plush tannins and finishing on a spicy note.
James Suckling
A rich, soft red with plums and chocolate, as well as spice and walnut undertones. Exotic. Full body, round tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows the depth and intensity of this chateau. Drink now or hold.
VertdeVin
The nose is fruity, ripe, structured and offers a beautiful freshness. It reveals notes of cassis, blackberry and fine touches of fleshy/juicy cherry, red berries associated with discreet touches of spices, iris/bulb, very discreet hints of Sichuan pepper as well as very fine touch of tonka bean and almond. The palate is fruity, mineral, beautifully fresh, well-balanced and offers a beautiful tension, precision, a fine unctuosity, suavity as well as fullness. On the palate this wine expresses notes of blackberry, cassis, raspberry and cherry associated with small notes of tonka bean as well as fine touches of zan/liquorice and discreet hints of sweet spices. Tannins are fine and elegant. Good length.
Falstaff
As its name suggests, this wine was made by the same team as Cos d'Estournel in Saint-Estèphe. The wine is fresh, fruity, soft in tannins and offers good final acidity. It will be ready to drink from 2021.
Druvor
72% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon & 4% Cabernet Franc.
Tasting note
'Refined and elegant, the Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 2012 has begun to fully reveal itself in the structure of Goulée by Cos d’Estournel. Located in the northernmost reaches of the Médoc, the terroir of Goulée reacted more extremely to weather conditions, resulting in a vintage with great energy.'
