Barde-Haut didn't see any frost this year due to the altitude of the vineyards. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Barde-Haut gives notions of baked blackberries, blueberry compote and Black Forest cake with touches of potpourri, dusty soil and cast iron pan. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a firm frame of grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing long and minerally.

The nose is aromatic, fine, elegant, slightly tight and offers gourmandize as well as a fine richness. It reveals notes of vanilla, fresh blackberry, fresh strawberry and more slightly ripe/fresh little fruits associated with touches of zan, toasted, caramelization as well as discreet hint of clove, gray pepper and an imperceptible hint of nut. The palate is fruity, well-balanced, slightly tight, straight and offers a good definition, dynamism, a beautiful acid frame, juiciness, fullness, suavity, beautiful freshness as well as a fine grain. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy blackberry, black cherry and more slightly juicy raspberry associated with fine touches of toated oaky, zan, mild tobacco as well as subtle hint of nut and an imperceptible hint of clove. Tannins are fine, tight and a bit chewy. Good persistence on touches of cocoa and caramelization (these bring gourmpandise as well as chew).
