The nose is aromatic, fruity, spicy and offers deepness, a beautiful intensity and a beautiful finesse of the grain. It reveals notes of pulpy blackberry, bigarreau cherryand small notes of wild strawberry, violet associated with touches of spices, rose wood, lilac, pink pepper, black tea as well as discreet hints of Badiane, coriander, a discreet hint of caramelization and an imperceptible hint of incense/nutmeg. The palate is fruity, elegant, gourmand, juicy, beautiful defined and offers deepness, intensity, a fine concentration as well as gourmandize, a beautiful minerality, freshness and a sensual/silky side. On the palate this wine expresses notes of bright cassis, fleshy/juicy blackberry and small notes of violet, bigarreau cherry, small black fruits as well as a subtle hint of small red berries, chocolate/tonka bean, graphite, incense, violet candy, pepper, a subtle hint of cherry blossom, caramelization and almond. Tannins are precise, structuring and well-built. Good length. A very fine bitterness/roasted on the persistence. A fine chew on the persistence (brings notes of almond, chocolate and vanilla).
Wine Enthusiast
Ripe black fruits shine through this balanced wine, showing strongly against a backdrop of rich, generous tannins. This estate is one to watch as it achieves the form the vineyard deserves. Expect this wine to be ready to drink from 2026.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2018 Cantenac Brown has a medium to deep garnet-purple color, wafting gently out of the glass with fragrant scents of redcurrant jelly, Morello cherries, plum preserves and fresh blackcurrants, plus suggestions of red roses, cedar chest and pencil lead. The medium-bodied palate (13.5% declared alcohol) has a sturdy frame of grainy tannins and plenty of freshness supporting the delicately styled red and black fruit flavors, finishing savory.
