Incorporating fully 65% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Jean Faure has turned out beautifully in bottle, wafting from the glass with complex aromas of raspberries and plums mingled with rose petals, violets and crushed mint. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a dense, almost unctuous core of ripe, lively fruit that's underpinned by ultra-refined tannins, this is the finest Jean Faure bottled to date.
Certainly the most accomplished wine of the past 10 years! Superb with its rose and raspberry aromas, delicious in its silky texture and harmonious substance, this 2022 extends the pleasure with a grand, perfumed, and saline finish of great elegance. Bravo!

The 2022 Château Jean Faure is based on 64% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, and 6% Malbec that’s from deeper clay soils on the upper plateau, not far from Cheval Blanc and La Dominique. Raised in 30% new oak with 25% in foudre and 15% in concrete tanks, its high Cabernet Franc component gives this wine its singular character, and while it’s never the biggest or richest wine in a vintage, it absolutely shines for its complexity and nuance. The 2022’s deep ruby/plum hue is followed by an exotic perfume of red and black fruits, blood orange, and spicy, floral nuances. With medium-bodied richness, a pure, graceful, beautifully balanced mouthfeel, and fine tannins, this classy, elegant Saint-Emilion will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age (you'll be excused for drinking a bottle today), and it should see its 25th birthday in fine form. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

The 2022 Jean Faure is a total stunner. It shows much better from bottle than it did from barrel. Soaring aromatics meld into a core of vibrant red/purplish fruit. Blood orange, raspberry, mocha, spice and new leather soar out of the glass.

Attractively peppery at first, followed by ripe but vivid berries and a touch of chocolate on the nose. Fresh and adequately fluid with good midpalate weight and fine, chalky tannins. Expressive, pure and long. Smart, spot-on extraction here. From organically grown grapes. Drink from 2026.

This 18-hectare estate occupies an elongated triangle of vineyards next to La Dominique on the Pomerol border. For the most part, there's clay a mere 60 centimeters below the surface, but the tip of the triangle is defined by sandier soils. As a result of a bitter divorce, Jean Faure wasn't replanted to Merlot like so many Saint-Émilion estates were in the 1950s and 1960s, so old-vine Cabernet Franc dominates—and is now the source of a massal selection. Winemaking is gentle, with long but gentle macerations and élevage including foudres as well as barriques.
