VertdeVin
Still a beautiful, precise and pure fruity notes, which is characteristic of this vintage. The nose is complex and expresses notes of black fruits (cassis, plum, blackberry) associated with some sweet spices and hints of oak. The palate is delicate, fine, complex, fresh and well balanced. It expresses notes of blackcurrant and plum related but much more subtle with notes of strawberries. The tannins are fine and well done. Good precision in the work of tannins. Presence of a small saline notes in the finish but it should disappear with time (it happens regularly on futures wines so young and unfinished). Beautiful persistent in mouth.
Wine Enthusiast
This is a firm wine although with superb fruit. It is structured and dense, dark with tarry tannins as well as juicy fruitiness. It is a powerful wine that certainly has the freshness of the year while also having dark, dense tannins. Drink from 2025.
Gilbert & Gaillard
Deep garnet. Very articulate nose with full-on fruit expression supported by fine toasted oak. Soft palate with delicate, silky tannins revolving around racy fruit. Medium concentration but quite refined.
James Suckling
Aromas of black currant and dried flowers such as violets. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a delicate. Fruity finish. Seamless tannins.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2013 Montrose has an understated, lilting bouquet with blackberry and briary scents and dried rose petals, gaining more intensity as it opens over 2-3 minutes in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. It shows good weight in the mouth, quite linear and masculine (typical for Montrose) but there is respectable detail and mineralité coming through on the satisfying finish. Not a top tier Montrose, but then again, why would it be in this difficult vintage. It will still give pleasure over the next 12-15 years.
Andreas Larsson - Tasted
Youthful appearance with a slight purple hue, medium towards deep ruby-red. Very fine nose, there is good depth. Quite multi-layered here, with inky dark fruit, blackberry, cassis, ripe herbs like sage with dark plum and elegant toastiness in the background. Fine tobacco, rather like a Cuban cigar. Also with a good purity and a slight hint of minerality. Good bite on the palate. Fine density of fruit. This is really medium towards full weight, but really with an emphasis on fruit. I think the extract is quite soft and subtle already. So not a lot of tannin. Bright and fresh acidity. Very elegant fruit flavours, with notably blackcurrant and plum. Elegant spiciness. A long, lingering finish. A good sensation of purity on the finish. A slight touch of minerality and a very discreet smokiness. A very fine wine that is already accessible I would say. It should obviously go on for a long time, but it should drink well pretty early on.
