Inky dark purple core and hue. Pure nose offering violet, dark berries, cassis and some herbal spices like sage with mild oak underneath. The palate is dense and youthful with nice layers, digest dark fruit, quite substantial but polished tannins, good grip, digest fruit and a long persistency.

The nose is fruity, elegant and offers a beautiful delicacy, gourmandise as well as complexity. It reveals notes of Boysenberry, violet and small notes of fleshy strawberries associated with small touches of blueberry, cherry, camphor, licorice / spices as well as a very discreet hint of vanilla. The palate is fruity, juicy, well-balanced and offers a beautiful suavity, a beautiful finesse of the grain, elegance, a slight tension, dynamism as well as precision. On the palate this wine expresses notes of fleshy blackberry, crushed / ripe black berries and small notes of wild strawberries associated with small touches of blueberry, cornflower, licorice as well as a very discreet hint of camphor, Ceylon tea, mocha, a very discreet toasted hint and an imperceptible hint of black pepper. Tannins are fine and structuring. The persistence is very slight powerful and offers slight hints of cocoa, pepper, wood and an imperceptible hint of almond hint.

The 2016 Clos Vieux Taillefer from Nicolas and Alexandra Robin (distant relatives of the former owners of Lafleur) has an intense, licorice-scented bouquet that perhaps just needs to develop more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, quite firm in the mouth, but it would be enhanced by more persistence, a longer tail on the finish. It is a punchy and gutsy Pomerol that needs more finesse to come through once in bottle.

Seriously beautiful spiced-plum, chocolate and earthy aromas here with a plush, velvety palate that is brimming with attractive fruit, dressed in spicy oak. Great Pomerol. Drink or hold.
