Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
Apricots, almonds, flowers, and a dab of honey create the perfume. The palate is even better with its layers of lusciously-textured, oranges, candied lemon, and notes of white peach that show up in the vibrant, creamy finish. This is the debut of this new wine from Guiraud which is the brainchild of Sandrine Garbay. The wine truly tastes exactly like what you want from a dry Sauternes. Drink from 2023-2035.

On the nose, fruity and offers good definition, fine texture as well as precision and depth. Notes of ripe apple, fresh peach and more slightly citrus fruits associated with fine points of fresh almond. The palate is fruity, discreetly tight and offers juiciness, minerality, gourmandise as well as a nice fine grain, a certain delicacy. On the palate it expresses notes of pulpy/juicy apple, lychee and more lightly citrus fruits associated with touches of fresh kumquat as well as fine points of almond, small exotic fruits and a discreet touch of vanilla.

A new wine from this estate and the inaugural vintage, the 2020 Château Guiraud Blanc Sec comes from the estate’s vines in Sauternes and is 70% Sauvignon and 30% Semillon that saw partial malolactic fermentation and spent 12 months in barrels. It shows a medium gold hue as well as a bright, crisp, yet still rich bouquet of caramelized Meyer lemons, lime, toasted break, white flowers, and some classic chalky, mineral-like nuances. Beautiful on the palate as well, it has a layered, medium-bodied, nicely concentrated mouthfeel, good acidity, and a clean finish. It's a richer yet balanced and still lively white that's going to shine on the dinner table. I'd drink bottles over the coming 4-6 years or so, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see this evolve nicely for well over a decade.

Tasting note
‘Rikare i munkänsla än vissa årgångar av Le ’G’ de Guiraud, denna har en härlig ton av limejuice och citrongräs och silkeslen konsistens - njutbar och med en twist på finishen.’
