(2021) A wine I have been lucky enough to enjoy regularly since first tasting it 'en primeur' in 2003, this was from a half bottle and was absolutely glorious. The nose of this has always fascinated, not only heaving with a depth of marmalade, honey and toast, but the exoticism of saffron and candied fruits, and a wonderful suggestion of truffle and dry, Botrytis-rich curry-leaf. In the mouth it is so concentrated, so vital, the intensity of the dried apricot and Seville orange, mouth-filling sweetness, beeswax weight and richness, then the clarity of confit lemon, mineral salts and again, that truffle character adding soulful depth. Quite majestic. Price quoted is for a half bottle.

Lush, opulent, rich, and racy, the wine hits all the right notes combining layers of ripe and overripe pineapples, honey-coated apricots, caramel, butterscotch, and hints of candied orange rind. While not fully mature, at 20, it is clearly delivering the goods with ease. Enjoy it now, and for over the next 2 decades with ease. 97 Points

The Suduiraut 2001 has an attractive bouquet of honeycomb, passion fruit and a touch of petrol that are well defined, if not as complex as more recent vintages such as the 2009. The palate is well balanced with fine citrus lemon and apricot notes. This is very harmonious and focused, although it does not quite fan out with the precocity you might expect. This was Christian Seely’s first vintage at the estate, and while it is an excellent wine, I think he has overseen even better vintages since then.
